Savills elevates client-first approach through hospitality-inspired office

As one of the world’s largest commercial real estate brokerage firms, Savills is driven by a core commitment to putting clients’ best interests first. Their Calgary team serves companies across the western Canadian market with a tenant-first approach—starting by understanding each company’s unique needs to deliver solutions aligned with their business goals. To support this approach, they envisioned an office that seamlessly blends functionality with the warmth and elegance of upscale hospitality. Drawing inspiration from the Mad Men-era tradition of offering a drink at the door and the refined aesthetic of mid-century modern office design, their space puts hospitality at the forefront, all while supporting a focused, high-performing team.

The Challenge

Balance: The core challenge of the project was creating a space that felt refined and hospitality-driven while remaining cost-efficient. Every design decision had to strike the right balance between luxury and restraint. We focused on delivering a high-end experience through thoughtful material choices, strategic planning, and clean, intentional detailing.

Hospitality: They envisioned an office that seamlessly blends functionality with the warmth and elegance of upscale hospitality.

The Solution

Small but strategic adjustments were made throughout the design process to maintain the integrity of the original concept while incorporating cost-effective alternatives that still delivered on finish and feel. Flooring was reimagined using a chevron-patterned LVT, offering the same elegant look of a custom wood flooring at a more practical price point. Bodaq wall covering was paired with solid wood trim stained to match, creating a cohesive and elevated look with a seamless, wood-like finish throughout the space.

To bring Savills' hospitality-focused vision to life, key spaces were designed to elevate both employee and client experiences while reinforcing company culture. Serving as both a cultural touchpoint and a functional gathering space, the bar fosters collaboration, sparks creative thinking, and enhances client interactions. It encourages employees to linger, connect, and unwind. The bar also proudly displays Savills’ liquor collection, making it easy to serve clients in a warm, welcoming way. The private speakeasy room offers a transportive experience, giving employees and clients the feeling of stepping into their favourite hidden bar. With a built-in work surface and expansive views overlooking Calgary’s north side, the lounge space offers a quiet moment of inspiration, grounding employees with a strong sense of place.

The Human-Centred Lens

The space was designed to feel curated, comfortable, and personal, qualities often reserved for hospitality settings but brought into the workplace here with purpose.

Layered lighting, including wall sconces and portable table lamps, creates a moody, ambient atmosphere that contrasts with the bright, uniform lighting typical of traditional offices. This softer approach supports focus, comfort, and ease throughout the day.

Material choices were equally intentional. Rich textures and warm wood tones offer a tactile experience that feels grounded and welcoming. These elements lend the space a personalized, residential quality, helping employees and guests feel at ease the moment they enter.

To support different modes of working and gathering, a range of seating options was incorporated throughout. From solo nooks to casual group lounges, each zone balances privacy and openness, offering flexibility while reinforcing the space’s human-centred intent.

Key Features

Statement bar

More than just a feature, the bar serves as a catalyst for company culture. It invites employees and clients to connect in a relaxed setting, encouraging spontaneous collaboration and extending moments of conversation. Outfitted with Savills’ liquor collection, it brings a hospitality-driven layer to the workplace experience.

Speakeasy room

This enclosed space offers a distinct shift in tone. Designed to echo the intimacy of a favourite hidden bar, it gives employees and clients a quiet place to step away, unwind, or hold more private conversations in a setting that feels transportive.

Lounge with a view

Situated to overlook Calgary’s north side, including neighbourhoods like Sunnyside and Crescent Heights, the lounge features a long work surface that encourages quiet focus or gathering casually with colleagues. It reinforces a sense of place and offers moments of pause with an expansive city backdrop.

Tailored detailing

Every element in the space was considered for both form and feel. From the chevron-patterned flooring to the stained wood trims that seamlessly match wall finishes, these details elevate the overall experience without drawing too much attention to themselves. It’s a quiet kind of luxury, one that reinforces the hospitality concept through precision, consistency, and care.
