To create a unique Mexican dining experience on Calgary’s trendy 17th Avenue. Located next door to it’s successful sister restaurant Cleaver; it was critical for Gringo St. to withhold the company’s reputation while establishing it’s own sense of identity.

Designed to bring the restaurant’s energy onto the street; the kitchen was brought to the front of the space with operable awning windows to allow the food and it’s makers to be on full display. The existing narrow footprint challenged our team to be creative with space planning to maintain flow while maximizing seating count.

The illusion of a boldly coloured shipping container breaking through the façade is a memorable first impression, but it doesn’t stop there. Once inside, a playful graphic welcomes you which has quickly given Calgary food lovers something to talk about. We are also obsessed with the custom dipped copper pendant lights and robin egg blue table tops. Both are paired with beautifully crafted saddle seat benches.
